Marisol Ortega

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP: Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I spent the majority of my time in Oregon.

 

WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN ILLUSTRATION: Probably when I was 4-5 years old. I’ve always loved to draw and I was that weird kid at family gatherings in the corner, nose deep in my coloring books/notebooks.

 

WHAT INSPIRES YOU: Nature, taking photos, moving slow, spending time with my girls.

 

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE THAT YOU’VE CREATED: Probably my commissioned work for Target’s own art supply brand: Mondo Llama. 4-5 year old Marisol was living her dream. 

 

IF YOU WEREN'T AN ARTIST WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD: Probably a botanist or something with gardening

 

WHAT SONG GETS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD MOST OFTEN: That song, “surface pressure” on the Encanto Soundtrack. 

 

WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL: Hmmm, probably a cat

 

IF YOU COULD ONLY EAT ONE FOOD FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Burritos, all day everyday. Breakfast burritos are where it’s at. 

 

WHAT IS THE ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING THAT YOU WEAR MOST OFTEN: Probably my tie dyed tshirt that I got in Palm Springs, haha. 

 

WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BE: “Ni de aqui, ni de alla” (Neither from here nor from there)

 

WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING YOU'VE EVER DONE: Become a working mother.

 

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU LAUGHED SO HARD IT HURT: When I was in Mexico a few weeks ago.

 

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TALENT: I speak 3 languages? I’m not sure that’s a secret talent though. 

 

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO DANCE MOVE: Ya girl can’t dance. I always get hurt, haha.

 

WHAT IS THE STRANGEST THING IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR: Mustard. 

 

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO UNWIND AFTER A BUSY DAY: Watching something I’ve already watched a billion times in my pjs with a cold press juice.
