MEET THE ARTIST:

Michael Cook

Michael Cook is a Wardrobe Stylist based in New York City.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP:

Bay City, TX - a small town on the Gulf Coast.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN FASHION:

I didn’t exactly fit in in small town Texas, and always knew I was different. With limited resources fashion was the easiest way to not only express myself but also stand apart from the crowd - which i had no interest in being a part of.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LOOK THAT YOU’VE CREATED:

This is tough, but I’m sure it would be something I’ve created with Matthew Priestley.  I always have a strong sense of play and freedom working together, and I love reimagining clothing into shapes and visual stories other than what they were intended.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FOR YOUR WARDROBE STYLE?

All sorts of places, but I would say the least source of inspiration is fashion - ha! I love storytelling and how do we tell story through a visual image utilizing clothing is so fun for me. So inspiration can come via a flower, a line, a doodle, a novel, movie, movement, etc - and then the exciting part is connecting those inspirations with the story you are telling.

IF YOU WEREN'T A STYLIST WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD:

Likely something still visual - interior design or landscape design. I love creating environments and textures.

WHAT SONG GETS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD MOST OFTEN:

This totally depends on my mood, or what I’m curently vibing, but you can usually bet money that there’s some sort of disco beat in my head most of the time.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ERA OF FASHION:

Late 1960’s into the 1970’s.

WHAT IS THE ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING THAT YOU WEAR MOST OFTEN:

A wide leg trouser.

WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BE:

"One Foot in The Trash, One Foot in The Bouge"

WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING YOU'VE EVER DONE:

Jumping into new and different situations - like moving to NYC with nothing really but confidence and a dream and hope that it would eventually work out!

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU LAUGHED SO HARD IT HURT:

A recent trip to PTown ... an edible might have been involved ha! So I’m not sure why or what was so funny, but it was!

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TALENT:

Not totally secret, but I play the oboe.

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO DANCE MOVE:

A get low backbend.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO UNWIND AFTER A BUSY DAY:

A snuggle with the dogs and a negroni in hand watching the sunset over the fire pit.

WHAT ITEM OF CLOTHING DO YOU WEAR TO FEEL YOUR BEST?

A pair of short shorts - show off your assets ;)
