MEET THE ARTISTS:
Brittny Moore
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP:
Long Beach, California
WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN FASHION:
For as long as I can remember. As a young child, I was always extremely specific about my clothing and shoes. The first time I recall being inspired by something specific was while watching the 1995 remake of “A Little Princess” (I love a period piece). The early 20th-century boarding school uniforms really got me. Clothing has always felt like an extension of myself. I find it empowering, but also not that serious. Style is more important to me than fashion.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LOOK THAT YOU’VE CREATED:
It was more for an overall project rather than one particular look. Wild Belle “Mockingbird” music video. We created a 70’s inspired/rude boy/Jamaican dance party in a jungle. Even 70’s police uniforms. It was one of my favorite days on set to date. I love creating a different reality through wardrobe and I could have never done it without my incredible team. So much of what I love about this job is the collaboration aspect. With my team, and with other artists. It’s important to appreciate your people that help make it all happen.
WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FOR YOUR WARDROBE STYLE?
The performing arts, photographer Helmut Newton, photographer Guy Bourdin, fashion editor Carine Roitfeld, stylist Samantha McMillen, as well as many other performing artists.
IF YOU WEREN'T A STYLIST WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD:
I would either study psychology and likely work in the mental health field, or dance professionally.
WHAT SONG GETS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD MOST OFTEN:
Hard Rain by Lykki Li
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ERA OF FASHION:
I love the 70’s! However, I collect vintage from all eras. I love vintage.
WHAT IS THE ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING THAT YOU WEAR MOST OFTEN:
A white tee. So simple.
WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BE:
I’d like to live a bit longer before writing my autobiography, but probably something related to the power within your own mind and overcoming obstacles.
WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING YOU'VE EVER DONE:
Teaching children dance. I’ve taught from age 3-18 and every age is so different. It took years to master but was one of the most rewarding things to learn and overcome. Children are the most honest of all people, to earn their respect and give them a gift of dance is priceless.
WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU LAUGHED SO HARD IT HURT:
This month, while dancing with my best friend Alejandro.
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TALENT:
I am a professionally trained ballet and contemporary dancer.
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO DANCE MOVE:
Something improvised. It really depends on the music. I love to dance more than anything else.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO UNWIND AFTER A BUSY DAY:
I love to cook and practice yoga.
WHAT ITEM OF CLOTHING DO YOU WEAR TO FEEL YOUR BEST?
Vintage denim.
